Farsta strand – a place for something new

Farsta strand offers something that is hard to find in a big city – real nature, excellent transport links, and a vibrant centre, all in one place. With the City of Stockholm’s major investment in the area’s development, this is also one of the most exciting locations in southern Stockholm to live in right now.

Close to nature, close to the city

Farsta strand is located in southern Stockholm, nestled between the lakes Magelungen and Drevviken. Here, the accessibility of the city combines with a genuine connection to nature. Along the lakeshores there are walking paths, swimming spots, and jetties, and in winter both Magelungen and Drevviken are cleared for ice skating. The popular Hökarängsbadet is just a ten-minute walk away, and along Drevviken you’ll find the cosy café Nice Valley – a perfect stop on a run or Sunday stroll. In the other direction awaits Magelungen and Farsta Värdshus, which in summer offers a wonderful atmosphere by the water.

On the other side of Magelungen lies Ågesta nature reserve with a golf course, lit running trails, horse riding, and swimming spots. And for those interested in history, Farsta gård – with roots dating back to the 17th century – offers guided tours, a gallery, jazz club, and restaurant.

Shopping and services

Farsta centrum opened in 1960 and was at the time Sweden’s largest shopping centre. Today it houses around 150 shops, well-stocked supermarkets, and an outdoor market – all within comfortable distance. If you want to experience the city, take the green metro line to the centre in approximately 20 minutes, or the commuter rail from Farsta strand towards Stockholm C, Odenplan, or all the way to Nynäshamn.

Buses 828, 830, and 831 stop right outside the building, and Farsta is a major public transport hub for southern Stockholm with a wide range of bus connections.

An area in strong development

Farsta is one of Stockholm’s designated focus areas for urban development and is included in the city’s comprehensive plan. The area is set to grow with more housing, workplaces, increased retail, and investment in sport and culture – all with the goal of creating a vibrant and mixed urban environment with safe routes and clear orientation.

Through the Tyngdpunkt Farsta programme, the City of Stockholm is laying the foundation for an area that preserves its existing qualities while developing into an even stronger part of southern Stockholm. For you as a resident of Stockholm South, this means moving into an area with both a strong present and an exciting future.
